Over the last three years, I have struggled against chronic running injuries like runner’s knee. Through it all, I listened to my body. Reluctantly, I stopped running and took up mountain biking, instead. I was always a power walker and hiker. Still, for me, no fitness activity compares to running. Nonetheless, I worked on strengthening my knee, while also resting it and respecting it. I was determined to be a life long runner, without knowing if, I would ever really run again pain free.
In May, I started trail running again. I began with running just one mile during my 6 mile walk and hike along Beacon’s waterfront trails. I couldn’t believe it. My body was doing it. My cadence felt good. My breath was easy. I was running efficiently. It was wild. I felt no pain in my knee. I am now up to running 4 miles with a 1-2 mile warm up and cool down, 5 days a week. I’m contending with a little SI pain, as the result of being rear ended at 40PMH, back in April…More on that later. The most important news, is I am running again!!!!
I have been running for 15 years now. And the most amazing thing is, I feel like all those years of experience have gelled. I feel free and easy on the trail and track. I am forever grateful!
