Sue Kreitzman and Joe Gagliano Outsider Artists
Spent the most incredible day with Sue Kreitzman. Our journey began at 10AM with a trek to Queens where we attended a private studio opening for, outsider artist, Joe Gagliano. Joe is one of several outsider artists that Sue Kreitzman has introduced me to. During our studio visit, I selected works to be featured in "Out of Bounds" at Blue Door Arts Center and Gallery. Joe is prolific. There was so much work! His medium is colored marker and paper. Much of Joe Gagliano's subject matter within his bright primary colored drawings springs from his deep Catholic faith. I immediately connected with one of Joe's religious themed series. I chose several pieces for the exhibition. I also bought one of his mermaid drawings.
During our visit, I also had the pleasure of meeting another outsider artist named Erica. Erica had two incredibly painstakingly well done and very small examples of her calligraphy work.
Sue Kreitzman and I travelled back to her Washington Heights Studio where she walked me through several series including assemblage, mixed media collage, paintings and jewelry. I am still decompressing from a whirlwind of a a day full of art, awesome creativity and authenticity. I will write more later.
